Copper, Silver, Gold and Platinum Group elements
Metallic Minerals core drilling efforts at the Allard site in the Bedrock Creek drainage of La Plata Canyon has primarily detected a porphyry copper deposit that also contains smaller levels of silver and PGEs.
Porphyry copper deposits require removal of bulk tonnage. Historically these deposits have been mined with open pit methods. Metallic Minerals has suggested that mining in the La Plata mountains would use a method called block caving. There are some links to block caving informational material on the Get Informed page. Ultimately, however, the mining method would be influenced by the mining company that buys Metallic Minerals mineral rights or partners with them.
